Across the world, the outbreak of the new coronavirus has strained healthcare systems and hit economies hard, with few countries expected to emerge unscathed by the pandemic's financial effect.

The impact of the Coronavirus global pandemic, is still being felt in Nigeria, resulting in a ‘’ lockdown’’ order of ‘restricted movement’ across three major states in Nigeria as at Friday 3rd   April 2020

The lockdown in Lagos, FCT and Ogun States, will last for at least 14 days, as announced by President Muhammadu Buhari (running into the worldwide Easter break weekend)!

A few more State Governors have also imposed some movement restrictions, resulting in most Nigerians spending more time at home!!

The ‘lockdown’’ order from the Federal Government in the respective states as announced by the President, means;

"All citizens in these areas are to stay in their homes. Travel to or from other states should be postponed. All businesses and offices within these locations should be fully closed during this period”.

The restrictions announced however, does not apply to hospitals and stores selling essential items such as food, beverages and medicine.

These are no doubt unprecedented times and the lockdown, so far has triggered so many reactions from stay-at-home families now.

Some major concerns impacting homes now include;

Rising Prices of basic home commodities

On Monday 30th of March, on the eve of the lockdown commencement, residents in Lagos flooded markets and stores to buy food and other items.

Local & international news reports corroborated many of the on-line stories of young mothers’ panic-buying experiences’, using the daylight hours to stock up on food for their families. A lot of feedback in the news has been the escalating prices of food commodities, (despite the reduction in the pump price of fuel).

A lot of women seem to have been caught off-guard, expecting the government to give us a few days to sort out our domestic needs before the announcement.

However, in real life when emergencies, crisis and accidents happen, most times, the final warning signs are abrupt or very vague!  A global pandemic requires action and decisiveness, leaving very little time for planning ahead. Hence the situation countries are facing with the management of COVID 19!
